Accountability and Transparency

Having served as Chair of the Accountability and Transparency Advisory Committee, I believe our greatest achievement is not the work we have completed, but the culture we are helping to shape.

I remain committed to this work and would welcome the opportunity to continue providing leadership as we build on the foundation that has been established. The momentum is real, and I believe our municipality is well-positioned to continue advancing accountability, transparency, and evidence-based decision-making.

The challenge now is to maintain that momentum. Accountability and transparency are not merely words, nor are they initiatives with a finish line. They are behaviours. They are ongoing commitments that must be embedded in the culture of governance, decision-making, and public engagement.

The progress made to date has established a strong foundation, but lasting success will depend on our willingness to continue asking the right questions, measuring what matters, and demonstrating how community input influences outcomes. Accountability requires the discipline to track progress and report results. Transparency requires the openness to explain decisions, share information, and welcome scrutiny.

As a municipality, we have an opportunity to continue fostering a culture where evidence informs decisions, public participation is valued, and strategic priorities remain at the forefront of our actions. Momentum, once created, must be nurtured. The true measure of success will not be found in the policies we adopt, but in the behaviours we consistently practice and the trust we build over time.

Ultimately, accountability and transparency are not destinations. They are principles that guide how we govern, how we engage with our community, and how we earn and maintain public trust. I look forward to continuing to contribute to that work.
