Increasing Access to Primary Care

After six years of persistent effort, our community welcomed two new Family Physicians, an important step toward improving local access to healthcare. However, our work is far from finished.

As Chair of the Family Physician Recruitment Working Group, I remain committed to strengthening our physician recruitment efforts and ensuring long-term access to primary care for residents as our population grows and existing physicians approach retirement.

Working alongside dedicated community volunteers, we have developed recruitment marketing materials, attended physician recruitment events, joined the Ontario Physician Recruitment Alliance (OPRA), and built relationships with postgraduate Family Medicine programs at Ontario medical schools. We have also continued advocating to the provincial government, assessed local healthcare needs through a Health Care Connect campaign, and worked to ensure that clinic space and Family Health Team support are available for incoming physicians.

June remains committed to leading this work for our residents.
